This project is funded by the Partnership for Higher Education in Africa
The purpose of the project is to support interventions in universities supported by the Partnership for Higher Education in Africa (PHEA) to make increasingly effective use of educational technology to address some of the underlying educational challenges facing the higher educational sector in Africa. This will require a focus on capacity development to initiate and sustain effective educational technology projects which impact on the nature and quality of the student learning experience and outcomes, as well as a focus on knowledge creation and dissemination across and between partner universities on the use of educational technology.
See PHEA conceptual framework document for a more detailed discussion of the initiative.
Part A of the project comprised of a year-long, comprehensive engagement process with identified institutions and focused on providing learners with access to quality education and research opportunities; building academics’ capacity to teach effectively; and enhancing the institutional management and administration necessary to support and enable teaching, learning and research activities.
Part B of the programme of work is currently underway. Part B being based on the planning, exposure and research which took place in Part A. Final selection of the Part B activities for investment was be done through a consultative process involving the senior management of institutions and the PHEA ETI team.
Progress to Date
Now that the institutions have received the first tranche of funding from the PHEA, they are working with the PHEA ETI team in order to develop comprehensive implementation plans for Part B activities. The PHEA ETI team has visited a number of institutions in order to support the implementation process.
The following institutions have developed implementation plans:
Catholic University of Mozambique
Kenyatta University
University of Dar es Salaam
University of Ibadan
