Revisiting the Challenges for Higher Education in Sub-Saharan Africa: Role of OER Movement

OER Africa is a new initiative currently being implemented by the South African Institute for Distance Education (SAIDE) with support from the Hewlett Foundation. In devising a Plan of Action for OER Africa the working group has determined that there is a need to find out just how OER might contribute to the needs of Higher Education Institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa. This research study will investigate the key challenges to higher education in Sub-Saharan Africa and identify those areas in which Open Educational Resources could contribute significantly to finding solutions to those challenges.
