Preconference workshop

Following on from the successful DETA pre-conference Teacher Education OER workshop in 2011, Saide in collaboration with the TESSA programme is organising a pre-conference workshop entitled:  Quality and Effectiveness: Using Open Educational Resources in Teacher Education Course Design. The workshop is taking place at the University of the Cape Coast, Ghana from 8th to 9th July 2012.

Acknowledgements

The OER Africa Teacher Education domain was designed by the International Association for Digital Publications with funding from Ford Foundation and Kresge Foundation. This funding also provided for the digitisation and publishing of the resources in the Education Studies theme.

The ongoing development of the domain with further themes is being supported by the Hewlett Foundation.

Convenors

Prof Ken Harley, School of Education and Development - University of KwaZulu-Natal

Tessa Welch, Programme Specialist (Teacher Education) - South African Institute for Distance Education

If you wish to be a convenor for one of the themes, would like to suggest a new theme, or if you simply wish to alert us to a useful resource or event of which we are not aware, please contact us.

Welcome to the Teacher Education Space!

Here you will find resources to help you as you plan and deliver teacher education programmes and courses as well as people involved with teacher education in Africa.

Please note: Materials for the Early Childhood/Foundation Studies are still being developed. We invite you to join us in developing this site, or to be in touch with your questions and comments! Contact us.

How have the resources been selected and organized?

This space is organized according to a particular Framework for Teacher Education Programmes which makes explicit its underpinning beliefs and assumptions about what constitutes worthwhile and effective programmes of teacher education. To begin with, we have selected the following key themes.

Each theme has a convenor, who is responsible for identifying relevant resources, research, as well as sites and projects of interest.

Access to eBooks

In addition to the OER teacher education resources on this space, we aim to make available as e-books 20 to 40 Teacher Education Textbook titles that are in common use. This will be done under the auspices of the International Association for Digital Publications (IADP). Discounts of between 45% and 80% are possible for books made available electronically.

For more information, or for suggestions of high quality titles relevant to the teacher education curriculum in Africa, please contact us.
