The initial development of the Teacher Education Space is also being funded by the Hewlett Foundation.

Project Funder

The initial development of the Teacher Education Space is being funded by the International Association for Digital Publications (IADP). Its objectives are “to advance education and thereby relieve poverty, especially in developing countries, by facilitating the introduction and use of digital publications, and by related means”.

Welcome to the Teacher Education Space!

Here you will find resources to help you as you plan and deliver teacher education programmes and courses as well as people involved with teacher education in Africa.

Our purpose is to create a space in which teacher educators can support each other in the ‘organization of systematic learning’ for both initial and continuing professional development of teachers (preset and inset).

Please note: As the site is still being developed, not all resources for the Education Studies theme are available at present. Materials for the Early Childhood/ Foundation Studies are still being developed. We invite you to join us in developing this site, or to be in touch with your questions and comments! Contact us.

We believe that central to creating meaningful access to professional teacher education and development is course material that can be shared freely and openly. However, equally central is engagement around curriculum and course design.

How have the resources been selected and organized?
This space is organized according to a particular Framework for Teacher Education Programmes which makes explicit its underpinning beliefs and assumptions about what constitutes worthwhile and effective programmes of teacher education. To begin with, we have selected the following key themes

Each theme has a convenor, who will be responsible for identifying relevant resources, research, as well as sites and projects of interest.

ACCESS TO EBOOKS

In addition to the OER teacher education resources on this space, we aim to make available as e-books 20 to 40 Teacher Education Textbook titles that are in common use. This will be done under the auspices of the International Association for Digital Publications (IADP). Discounts of between 45% and 80% are possible for books made available electronically.

For more information, or for suggestions of high quality titles relevant to the teacher education curriculum in Africa, please contact us.
