This section provides links African repositories and international repositories to which African Higher Education Institutions may contribute. This collection of OER and open access repositories was collected in relation to our themes, namely, Agriculture, Health, Teacher Education and Foundation Skills. There are also however repositories covering all subjects.
Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA)
FARA is the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa, an umbrella organization bringing together and forming coalitions of major stakeholders in agricultural research and development in Africa. FARA complements the innovative activities of national, international and sub-regional research institutions to deliver more responsive and effective services to its stakeholders.
Global Agricultural Research Archive
The Global Agricultural Research Archive, is a new initiative that aims to archive agricultural knowledge on behalf of developing countries around the world.This pilot database currently contains over 2,700 full text records from their institutional partners in Malawi, Pakistan and the Philippines and from the 2008 IAALD conference on agricultural information and IT.
Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR)
The CGIAR centers have published a number of resources, all of them OER. For example, the International Center for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas (ICARDA) has developed course modules on hybridization techniques in the faba bean and the chickpea, on experimental design and data analysis, and on biological nitrogen fixation, to name a few. The World Agroforestry Center has also developed modules. You must register to participate in some courses, but it is free of charge.

Regional Agricultural Trade Network (RATIN)
The Regional Agricultural Trade Network (RATIN) was developed to help reduce regional food insecurity by strengthening the ability of markets to provide access to affordable food to poor households and to improve food availability through the provision of adequate incentives to producers. To achieve this goal RATIN provides regional trade analyses for maize, beans and rice by using information from a variety of sources, including ministries of agriculture and other government offices, international agencies, etc.
Tegemeo Institute of Agricultural Policy and Development
The Tegemeo Institute of Agricultural Policy and Development, which is a joint initiative of Egerton University and the Michigan State University Department of Agricultural, Food, and Resource Economics, conducts research and analysis on policy relevant primarily to Kenyan agriculture, rural development, natural resources, and the environment.
Arid Lands Information Service (ARIN)
ALIN is a network of community development workers. Over 2,000 grassroots organizations, government departments and other organizations are ALIN members. ALIN works directly with local communities in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania in order to learn from their experiences and to share with them useful drylands farming methods and technologies developed elsewhere.
FARM-Africa
FARM-Africa is a UK NGO that provides training and support to rural communities to help them identify and implement appropriate solutions to many of the key problems they face. Families are directly supported to help work themselves out of poverty through improved ways to manage their crops, livestock, forests and access to water. The FARM-Africa website links to its research documents, training documents, and other materials. There is also a sampling of short videos.
National Agricultural Advisory Services
The Uganda National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) is a decentralized, farmer owned and private sector serviced extension system. The NAADS works directly with farmers on a range of issues, including the empowerment of farmers?to enable them to enable them to demand and effectively control the delivery of services. NAADS publications include agricultural marketing fact sheets, the CTA practical guide series, performance assessments, poverty and gender fact sheets,technical manuals, and much more.
agLearn.net, the Network for Sustainable Agriculture
agLearn.net, the Network for Sustainable Agriculture, is dedicated to enhancing the knowledge, attitudes, and working practices of farmers through the promotion of sustainable agriculture practices. agLearn.net is an Internet based series of courses aiming to support farmers and their communities through the sharing of knowledge and positive experiences, and bringing stakeholders together via partnership and constructive dialogue.
