Task 1 Traditional Birt Attendant - What can a Modern Midwife learn from Her?

A trip to the traditional birth attendant's place would be a nice idea. So get ready for an adventure.
Don’t forget to carry your camera, pen, notepad above all “chitenje”.
 The purpose of this trip is to explore more about the traditional birth attendant which attracts pregnant women.

Activities:

1. Visit any traditional birth attendant in the community.
2. Assess the infrastructure and equipment in the household.
3. Find out how she became a traditional birth attendant and for how long she has been in the practice.
4. Interview the birth attendant about the care she renders to women in labour
5. Discuss with her pain relief measures
6. Interview the woman on how she assists a woman during childbirth.
7. Observe the traditional birth attendant's relationship with a woman in labour or women in general if possible.
8. What are the benefits of home delivery?
9. What are the dangers / disadvantages of home delivery?
10. What measures need to be put in place in order to stop this practice?
11. What have you learnt from the visit?
