Step 4b. Portfolio Tasks

Task 1: Observations

Observe the midwife admitting a postpartum mother and her neonate to the ward. Write a report on what you saw and also reflect on what you believe are her/his strengths and weaknesses.

Task 2: Admission Procedure

Admit a postpartum mother and her neonate to the ward. Follow the correct procedure and document the process for your portfolio.

Task 3: Postpartum Client Education

Develop a lesson plan and relevant teaching materials (e.g. posters, demonstrations etc.) for the client being examined in the above task. Then implement the plan. Finally evaluate your efforts and write a report on the process and your experiences.

Task 4: Infection Prevention

Visit the labour and postnatal wards and observe the environment and also observe the working midwives, support staff, mothers and guardians. Write an evaluation report whereby you identify those activities that prevent infection and those that expose mothers and neonates to infection..
